Use iCloud to share browser tabs between devices

Use iCloud to share browser tabs between devices
Mac Tip #569, 06 February 2013

Now so many people have multiple devices — a Mac or two, an iPhone, an iPad — it’s more and more likely that you’ll start looking at a web page on one and then want to pick up on it from another device. If you use iCloud Tabs that’s a breeze. Here’s how it works in Mountain Lion.

Quick Start

  1. Turn on iCloud on all devices.
  2. Make sure all devices are signed in to the same iCloud account.
  3. Open pages in tabs in Safari on one or more devices.
  4. Click the iCloud icon in Safari for the Mac or iPad’s Toolbar and choose a tab open on another device.
  5. Choose iCloud Tabs from the Bookmarks icon in the Toolbar of an iPhone and select a tab open on another device.

Note: your devices need to be running a version of the operating system that uses iCloud, such as iOS 6 or Mac OS 10.8. Windows users may be able to use iCloud Tabs as well, but I haven’t tested that.
