Mac Trojan claims to show pictures of next OS

We knew it would happen at some point: it seems the first bit of malware for Mac OS X has appeared. Do not open a file called latestpics.tgz. Many sources are reporting it, but, as usual, ExtraBITS has some succinct, steady information. Please visit them and read the whole piece for full information.

Mac Trojan Sighted: A malicious file uploaded early this week to the MacRumors Forums site is a Trojan horse designed to fool Mac users into thinking they’ll get to see preview pictures of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, the next version of Apple’s operating system software. Instead, the latestpics.tgz file attempts to send itself to the user’s iChat contacts, and damages applications on the user’s computer. Your computer can’t be infected unless you open the file.
