The Control Strip
Mac Tip #20/12-Sept-2001
Every Mac for the last few years has had a Control Strip which offers easy access to certain functions. Sometimes though, the Control Strip is hidden or minimised so we’ll start with making sure you can see it.
Go to the Apple Menu and call up the Control Panels, then choose Control Strip and click on the radio button to Show it. Then close the Control Panel window.
Now you should see a strip of icons across the bottom of the screen. If you don’t, maybe the strip is minimised. If that’s the case then you might only see a small grey “tab” in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Click once on that tab and the Control Strip should stretch across your screen. Now, of course, it will get in the way of what you’re doing. To put it away again, click once on the right-hand end.
If you like, you can move the Control Strip up or down your screen, or even to the other side. Hold down the Option key and when you put your cursor above the closed tab you’ll see a hand icon. Now just drag the Control Strip around.
